We celebrated World Gin Day at Silent Pool Distillery, where else?
Silent Pool is a fab local craft distillery producing complex gin with floral notes of chamomile, rose and lavender in a very distinctive bottle.
The popularity of artisan gin has rocketed since 2009 when Sipsmith won a two year legal battle with HMRC for the right to produce gin in small quantities rather than on an industrial scale. Craft gin makers have now sprung up all over the country and sales have doubled in value over the last six years, with Brits buying 47m bottles of the tipple in 2017.
Silent Pool is expanding and there are plans in place to branch into whiskey which, unlike gin, has a minimum production time of three years. I am sure it will be worth the wait.
It’s inspiring to see a local company doing so well – a great success story for the Surrey Hills.
